Three Things To Do In Spokane, Washington

I’m sitting in bed with Morgan Wallen sing-begging in my ears as I radiate pure joy after spending a day getting to know Spokane, Washington. If you find yourself in the Lilac City for a stint, here’s how you may want to spend your time.

Start your morning off at Rocket Bakery

This local franchise took off 32 years ago and serves fresh pastries and coffee. I found myself gleefully lost in a center slice of ginger and pumpkin bread that projected me out into space. Talk about moisture, nutty flavor, and the kind of density that doesn’t have you screaming for water. When I returned the next day, I swapped my black coffee and cinnamon for the Cafe Generra — espresso, steamed milk, organic dark chocolate + orange peel make a rich, delicious pair!

Evidence in hand!

Take a walk

Coming from perfectly preened Florida, my eyes feasted on Spokane’s local (uphill) neighborhoods: little free libraries in abundance, front-yard vegetable gardens with hints of inedible beauty, and a yard sale with a botany lesson — grapes grow well in Spokane. My little legs also took me downtown, where I learned that this unique city hosts the world’s largest 3-on-3 basketball tournament — Hoopfest! Twenty-four thousand players from 44 states and six countries participate in the weekend-long annual competition.
