I want to acknowledge that it’s okay if cooking doesn’t excite you. There’s nothing wrong with you, and screw anyone who makes you feel any less of a woman because you don’t enjoy time in the kitchen.

One of the first things I made clear to my husband when we were dating is that cooking is not something I like doing most days, and, at one point in time, it was a major trigger for me. He was and continues to be supportive, and he does most of our cooking.

But sometimes, he just doesn’t feel like it — even people who enjoy cooking have those days! When that happens, I step forward and make us one of the following meals for the lazy housewife.

There’s nothing sweeter.

Sweet potatoes are a God-send, and preparing them is my №1 go-to. They are highly nutritious, tasty, and require minimal effort.

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°.
  2. Wash sweet potatoes and stab 3–5 holes in them.
  3. Leave oven at 350° and place your sweet potatoes directly on the rack. Put a pan below to catch syrup as potatoes cook. Leave for an hour, and take a nap.
  4. After an hour, poke a hole through one of the potatoes to see if cooked all the way through. If not, leave for another 10 minutes or so while you have a glass of kombucha or lemonade.
