Have you ever flowed from a night of soulful rest and thought — I’d like to feel fall in spring? Slow down, honey: You’re not merely experiencing a bout of effervescent youth; there is such a thing if you pack your bags and travel to the Motherland, as I did in April!

Read on to learn three things about traveling to South Africa, the southernmost tip of her highness.

1) Talk airspace to me, baby

Flying out of Newark, New Jersey or Washington, DC will get you a direct flight to Johannesburg, though that may not be ideal if you’re not keen to sit for about 15 hours. Although United Airlines provided extensive entertainment options, decent meals that suited my mother’s sugar-restricted diet, and excellent service, my $1,455.98 coach seat was just shy of miserable.

Prepare yourself with a neck pillow, booty cushion, and stretches to prevent inflammation, or spend a couple of hundred dollars for more legroom; heck, boost yourself to business or first class because your flight will most likely be the biggest expense.
