Are Guar and Xanthan Gum Bad?
The Big Brains tell us that Guar and Xanthan Gum have some benefits if consumed in moderation (less than 15 grams per day). The trouble is these additives are found in most processed foods the average American consumes: coconut milk, ice cream, baked goods, toothpaste, yogurt, supplements, lotion, etc. Yes, putting something on your skin or in your mouth counts as consumption; the skin is your largest organ and it’s porous!
Too much guar and xanthan may lead to digestive upset, such as bloating and inflammation.
Next time you’re in the Coconut Milk aisle, treat yourself to Edward & Sons Native Forest Organic Coconut Milk. It’s a great substitute for dairy and contains no guar or xanthan — only organic coconut milk and filtered water! Yes, it’s a bit pricier than the other brands; that’s because it’s not filled with additives in place of coconut.
I enjoy my simply delicious coconut milk with coffee or dandelion tea and a sprinkle of cayenne and cinnamon!
