1 Day in Dublin
Being that I’m not much of a city girl, Dublin is quite accessible!
If you stay in College Green, you are within easy walking distance from Trinity College (famous Old Library & The Book of Kells!), Merrion Square, Temple Bar, known for its red buildings and lots of traditional Irish music, and Dublin Castle. If religion and alcohol are your thing, the Guinness Storefront, Christ Church Cathedral and St. Patrick’s Cathedral are nearby.
All the previously mentioned stops are on the south side of the River Liffey, which runs from west to east.
Do the touristy thing and purchase tickets for a hop-on, hop-off bus, especially if you’re interested in seeing much of the city or want to orient yourself better! I went with City Sightseeing Dublin. I didn’t read reviews about it — I just happened to walk into the tourism office, and boom.
Bring your raincoat, and sit on the top of the double-decker!
From my windy, drizzly seat on the right of the bus, I saw north of the River Liffey, including Phoenix Park, where Irish President Micheal D. Higgins lives just across the street from American Ambassador to Ireland Claire D. Cronin.
The Winding Stair restaurant is located just north of the River Liffey and serves traditional Irish food. I enjoyed the Smoked ox tongue, fried beef cheek, sauce gribiche and apple salad, and was still hungry, so I followed it with Potted Dingle Bay crab with pickled cucumber, toasted soda bread and organic leaves.
